Got a ‘trial’ copy of Windows Vista few days ago. I was thinking of playing around with this new Micro$olf™ Windows Vista, wondering whats so cool about it, its eye candy. Like any of my linux distro and windows xp, I reserved 10GB testing-ground space logical partition for this Windows Vista.
Put in the DVD, booted it from my external DVD drive. Everywhere smoothly, and slowly. First it was the loading screen, its a status bar loading at the bottom of the screen. When its finally done, my first experience with this Operating System started. Even it’s installation screen was full of eye candy, no wonder there seems to have so much to load. The screen shows, Windows Vista, with links to install, and information to note before installing. I clicked on ‘install’. Waited awhile, I choosed my language and region, clicked ‘next’. It took another while to load the next page, then the page to select which partition to install the OS. I was getting irritated by nice, yet restricted control, GUI. I had a hard time trying to figure out which partition is which, since Windows vista call it the first partition Partition 1 instead of partition 0 and extended partition are not count into the total number of partitions. After much time wasted, I figured out the correct partition. Windows Vista can only be installed on NTFS file system, I delete the partition and recreated it using the installer. I clicked on the logical partition I had choosen, and click ‘next’, then my nightmare, perhaps the end of my nightmare from this OS, came.
Obviously, it refuse to install on my logical disk. I guess it wanted to be in the first primary parition with access to the MBR. This is even stupider than its predecessor, Windows XP. There were no control to ignore and go on with installation, and I can only exit installation, the work of DRM.
I knew I am not in favour of this Operating System, and doubt I would stay any long with Windows Vista, but I ultimately didn’t expect my experience with this OS will last so short. Half an hour of ‘live cd’ experience.
So Funny.
