[Humor] Singapore anti-Odex Protest

25 Aug riot

|Friday, 25 Aug 2007. Youth Park| Last friday, 8 protesters staged a protest against Odex, the Japanese animation distributor, for demanding Internet Service Providers to disclose the identities of illegal downloader. They displayed anti-Odex signs-carrying toy action figures in defiance to Odex’s action.

4 riot police buses were deployed to the location. The police were cooperative; they only took down the protesters’ identities and video-down their activities. The protest ended peacefully and no single arm shot was fired. No one was killed nor injured during the protest. No Weapon of Mass Destruction was found.

Singapore has becoming laxer in using its riot suppressing laws since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 — the end of cold war ‘bargain’ — as well as the political pressure since the US-led invasion of the dictator-ruled Iraq in 2003; thus, the number of democratic protest in Singapore is expected to increase.
